Mayor Adrian Fenty, in his attempt to take power from the elected Board of Education, without consulting DC voters, has now taken his drive for power to the courts.

Seeking to halt the referendum process for the proposed referendum measure put forth by DCPS grandmother and graduate Mary Spencer, Mr. Fenty chose to wait until the end of a 10 day challenge period (allowed for public challenges to the proposed referendum), so as to further delay the referendum process. Now, his challenge will be heard in court.

We still hope to receive the petitions to begin gathering signatures for a referendum on Wednesday morning. For more information on how you can help gather signatures, please see www.letmevote.org

Please join us in court on Wednesday, June 6 at 9:30 AM in Courtroom 312 of the Moultrie Building of DC Superior Court (500 Indiana Avenue NW; the main building) to support our right to have a say in our children's education.

Resistance and Solidarity, a local grassroots collective of anti-racist activists, are calling on individuals and groups from across the DC metro area to come and resist the Minutemen, FAIR, Save our State and other anti-immigrant racists, who are becoming more dangerous and violent in their “crusade” against immigrants, as the case of racist Herndon Minuteman Tyler Froatz, Jr. clearly shows.

Friday, June 15th, from 4pm to 6pm, we will hold a picket outside the Holiday Inn Capitol at 550 C St SW to call attention to the racists inside. Bring your signs and noisemakers.

As we call for People to come and resist the Minutemen and their racist cohorts, we ask folks to be mindful and respectful that immigrants might be in attendance at the event. We remind folks to exercise caution and stand in solidarity with Immigrants; As residents of DC we say NO to racists in our midst!

Friends,

The USSF is upon us! As a gathering of about 10,000 activists from all over the US and abroad, with an exciting array of workshops and activities on every issue under the sun, the Forum represents one of the most exciting events in North America in years, and a great opportunity to build and escalate our movements. It's also a great opportunity for MGJ to connect with organizations and activists from everywhere.

MGJ and allies are meeting this Wednesday to finalize our workshop for the US Social Forum. For a full text of what we proposed, please see below.
