Tyler Froatz Jr., the heavily armed member of the Herndon Minutemen arrested after assaulting individuals at last week's immigrant rights' rally in Malcolm X Park was rightly denied bond by a DC Superior Court judge on Friday, May 4. Froatz came to the May Day rally, armed with a stun gun, a 12 inch knife, a claw hammer, and a flare gun on his person. After assaulting an organizer of the rally, and insulting many of those present, Froatz returned to his car, containing a loaded rifle, binoculars, literature about killing immigrants, and maps of the park where the rally was taking place. Upon returning to the rally in camouflage, he was arrested by the US Park Police. After his arrest, numerous weapons were found in Froat'z NW apartment, at 5320 8th St NW, Apt. 107. Judge James Boasberg cited Froatz's large number of illegal weapons and his 'looking for trouble' at the immigrants rights' rally as reasons for holding him without bond.
Now, this anti-immigrant member of the Herndon Minutemen, the local chapter of the anti-immigrant Minuteman Project, is due back in court, on Thursday, May 17th, at 9:30 AM for a felony conference status hearing. It is unclear exactly what will take place at the hearing, but it is possible that Froatz's attorney will try to argue again for his release. Given the proven danger this individual has displayed that he poses to the community, especially immigrants, it is imperative that he be kept out of our community. Join us for a picket demanding that this dangerous racist not be released, on Thursday, May 17th at 9 AM, in front of the DC Superior Courthouse, located at 500 Indiana Avenue, NW. We will be present until at least noon, so please come for as long as you are able.
No to the Minutemen! No to Racism! No to Xenophobia! No to Armed Racists in Our Community!
