n Wed Nove 28, paid Smithfield spokesperson and cookbook author Paula Dan showed up at Books-a-Million in Dupont Circle for fans to sign her latest book. She was greeted by protesters from UFCW and the Justice at Smithfield campaign.

Several people slipped inside with copies of the book(required for admission to the line) and when they got to the front confronted Paula Dean over her refusal to meet with any Smithfield workers except a few that management sent to her.

Meanwhile, fliers saying "Paula Dan Welcomes You" on the outside and describing her ignorance of horrific working conditions at Smithfield(Tar Heel Plant) inside were handed out to patrons outside. Books-a-million posted guards at the door to CONFISCATE THE FLIERS from entering patrons-so much for free speech at a bookstore!

Paula Dean responded with blank stares and excuses to questions about Smithfield and even asked if protest organizers had met with the workers. Needless to say, they have-that's how the whole thing started.

Paula Dean, BTW, pushes extremely unhealthy recipies stating for instance that most recipies should use a WHOLE STICK OF BUTTER! She always uses and pushes Smithfield products on her shows and uses them in incredibly unhealthy ways.

Smithfield has responded to UFCW attempts to unionize the Tar Heel plant by siccing ICE agents on perceived union organizers to deport them! In addition, injured workers are routinely fired for attempting to use sick leave.

This being so, Smithfield products do not belong on your Yule dinner table!
