On April 25, Mayor Williams was the guest of honor at a UDC-sponsored dinner, even though he tried to close UDC in 1999! Due to his continued involvement in public land privatization, Empower DC called for protesters to counter his message.

On April 22 in Lafayette Park, members of Resistance and Solidarity, SDS, and the ISO answered the call to shout down the MinuteKlan and other anti-immigrant racist rally. With air horns, whistles, and loud chants, the racist message was stepped all over, just like a radio station getting heavy interference!
If you can imagine Don Imus trying to broadcast through a 50,000 watt jammer, that's what the MinuteKlan's racist speeches got.
Earlier today, the DC City Council ruled in favor of both the Human Pappiloma Virus (HPV) Vaccine Bill and the Education Reform Act (School Takeover) Bill. Community members showed up to voice their opposition to the undemocratic plans being forced on the residents of the District of Columbia.

Hours after charges stemming from the January Gitmo protest were dismissed, members of Catholic Worker, DAWN, and other antiwar groups marched from the courthouse to the White House and staged another Guantanimo Bay protest!
This time around, 30 people lined up in orange jumpsuits and black hoods on the White House sidewalk in the "postcard shot" between the lamp posts.

One speaker at the rally recounted how a worker was injured and then fired. First this worker accidently cut his arm due to high production line speeds.
Today, Wednesday, April 18th, at noon, parents, children and their allies rallied at the Wilson building to demand that the mayor and city council commit to expanding and improving childcare services for all DC children, especially those with special needs.

Two days after the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings, at noon on April 18, Code Pink and 50 years staged another protest to demand that Paul Wolfowitz resign. Packed bags were displayed and crime scene tape strung by uniformed "Pink police" from Code Pink.
The Code Pink "Pink Police" were a blast, wearing custom-made uniforms that looked like cop uniforms except for being PINK! In addition, crime tape was strung in front of the World Bank, and luggage rolled around bearing name tags for Wolfowitz and destinations like "Federal Court" and "The Hague."

Thousands of DC residents marched on April 16 to demand that DC residents get a vote in Congress. At this event, however,Mayor Fenty got an unpleasant suprise from residents of the besieged Temple Courts community, and from opponents of his school takeover plan.
